Description
The Garajonay National Park is a unique natural treasure located on the Spanish island of La Gomera. Created in 1981 and listed by UNESCO in 1986, it protects the world's largest laurel forest (laurisilva), a relic of the Tertiary era.
The park offers 18 trails of varying degrees of difficulty, where more than 1,000 species of plants and animals can be seen, including endemic laurel pigeons.
Geology enthusiasts will marvel at the rock formations of ancient volcanoes, while cultural enthusiasts can learn about the traditional whistling language 'silbo gomero', a UNESCO Intangible Heritage Site.
