Description
Lisbon's National Pantheon is a fascinating monument with a remarkable history. Originally a 17th-century church, the Igreja de Santa Engrácia took as long as 284 years to build, earning it the nickname 'the unfinished works of Santa Engrácia'.
Today it is the resting place of prominent Portuguese presidents, poets and artists, including the famous fadist Amália Rodrigues.
The distinctive white dome, visible from many parts of the city, hides an interior adorned with marble decorations. The terrace at the top offers a breathtaking panorama of Lisbon, and the Baroque architecture will delight any art lover.
