Description
Prior Palace is the oldest public palace in Tuscany, built between 1208 and 1254. This Gothic building with a stone facade and pentagonal tower impresses with its monumental architecture and rich history.
The interiors hide real treasures of art - frescoes by Pier Francesco Fiorentino, Donato Mascagni's 'Wedding in Cana' and the partially preserved 'Annunciation' by Jacopo di Cione Orcagna.
The Council Hall, richly decorated with coats of arms, still serves as a meeting place for the City Council. The palace forms the heart of Volterra's historic center and is a testament to the city's medieval power.
