Nidhi Gupta7 years agoWe went backpacking to Europe and Tallinn was our first stopover. And Old House Hostel turned out to be the ideal beginning to month-long trip. simple yet very aesthetically designed. The room was nicely done up for 4 of us with all basic things. even the kitchen had everything that one requires. Outside was so quiet that people back home asked if there is a curfew when they saw the pictures. Despite being so quiet and seemingly away from hustle bustle of market, the hostel is in the heart of Old Town and approximately a kilometer of walking to Town hall Square. The port area was also within walking distance.
The only thing I didn't like was the shared washroom because bathing area is also inside so only 1 person could use it at a time despite provision for 3 people. Bit that's a minor issue... pluses are much more. A clean, hygienic hostel with all needful things in place strategically located is a big yes.
Martijn Vermast8 years agoThe location of this hostel is great...but that's the only recommendable thing about this hostel.
I booked a single room and was directed to the annexe/guesthouse, a few houses down the road (the main building apparantly doesn't have single rooms). This really is an old house hostel, nothing romantic about it, just an old mess.
There wasn't a single door or floorboard that didn't creak (what's the huge hole in the floor in front of the kitchen doing there?).
There's one smelly toilet and one bathroom with a toilet and two showers (what's the use of that?!), serving six rooms and about fifteen guests (so be prepared to wait in the morning).
There's no daily cleaning. Toiletpaper was lacking in the bathroom for over a day.
The beds are box spring beds, but without the mattress, only the metal frame is there, with a thin cover to prevent the iron springs from penetrating your back completely.
The walls are paper thin, so I could literary hear my neighbour sigh and hear every other sound she made too.
There's no supervision whatsoever, so other guests were making noise, shouting and dancing in the middle of the night. After three nights with little or no sleep I made a complaint. The girl at the desk was very friendly and understanding: she offered free breakfast (5 euros), another room (the one without a window and next to the banging frontdoor) and extra supervision during the night (which didn't happen). So in the end staff did nothing at all.
WiFi was unreliable and out for one whole day.
I really don't get the high ratings for this high priced dump. Maybe the rooms in the main building are better, but for me this was the worst stay in a hostel ever.
S. Max Kube (Max)7 years agoDirectly in the old town, so if you step out you are in the old Tallinn. And tourists are passing the windows all araound the clock, so we had to sleep with closed windows and no air condition. The rooms are very small and hot in the summer. Parked our motorcycles in the parking place behind the hotel, seems save, because there is no direct sight from the streets.
breakfast to expensive, dont' book it, just get out in the city and supermarket or bakery, it should be betterRelated categories
