Description
The Marienberg Fortress is an impressive fortress with a rich history dating back to the Bronze Age. Located on a 266-meter-high hill, it offers breathtaking views of Würzburg and the surrounding area.
Within the fortress's walls are two museums: the 'Museum für Franken' and the 'Fürstenbaumuseum,' where you can admire a collection of Franconian art, including the famous Gothic sculptures by Tilman Riemenschneider.
The fortress served as the residence of the prince-bishops of Würzburg for nearly five centuries and played a significant role during the Thirty Years' War. Its impressive architecture combines Renaissance and Baroque styles.
