Description
Burg Falkenstein is one of the best-preserved castles in the Harz region, built between 1120 and 1150. This medieval architectural gem impresses with its seven gates, five zwingerings and 17-meter-high defensive wall.
In the castle's museum, you'll discover a fascinating history, including the creation of the Sachsenspiegel, Germany's first law book. Children will delight in the fairy-tale chamber and falconry demonstrations, while adults will appreciate the Gothic kitchen and the chapel with medieval stained glass windows.
Regular castle festivals and traditional meals at the castle's 'Krummes Tor' inn will enhance your stay. For nature lovers - the surrounding forests and the Friedrichshohenberg Nature Reserve make for excellent hiking.
