Description
** Köpenick Castle** is a Baroque palace located on a picturesque island in the Dahme River in Berlin. Originally built in 1558 as a hunting lodge, it was rebuilt in the Dutch Baroque style between 1677 and 1690.
Today it functions as a decorative arts museum, displaying furniture, tapestries and artwork from the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo periods. Particularly impressive is the restored heraldic hall, site of the famous court martial of 1730.
The Baroque garden surrounding the castle, with its numerous sculptures, is the perfect place for a relaxing stroll. The unique location on an island adds to the unique charm of this historic site.
