Description
Gotthardsruine is a fascinating historical monument located on Gotthardsberg Hill in Weilbach. This Gothic columned basilica has a rich history dating back to the 8th century, when there was originally a castle built here by the Frankish Graf Ruthard.
The tower of the ruins offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the seven valleys, Amorbach, Weilbach and the Odenwald and Spessart mountain ranges.
The site is an ideal destination for history and nature lovers who can admire the Gothic architecture and learn about the turbulent history of the building, which was destroyed during the Peasants' War in 1525 and rebuilt after being struck by lightning in 1714.
