Description
Newman University Church is a unique monument of religious architecture in Dublin, founded in 1855 by John Henry Newman.
The church impresses in its Byzantine style with a romantic portico and bell tower, a rarity in Irish architecture. The interior is decorated with marbles and serpentine from various parts of Ireland, and an impressive canopy inspired by the Basilica of San Clemente in Rome rises above the altar.
It is not only a place of worship, but also a witness to important historical events in Dublin, including the Easter Rising. The richly decorated walls, the chapel of Our Lady and the pulpit with carved symbols of the evangelists create an atmosphere full of spirituality and artistry.
