Description

Radboud Castle is one of the last surviving defensive castles of West Friesland, built in the 13th century by Count Floris V.

This fascinating building combines medieval and neo-Gothic architecture, with four distinctive round corner towers: Bottle Tower, Crete Tower, Monk Tower and Prison Tower.

There are special attractions for children: trick-or-treating, a play loft and a children's corner in the tower. Adults will appreciate the wealth of history and unique animations showcasing life in the Middle Ages.

avatarErwin Boddea week agoA small(ish) but charming castle with a simple but good restaurant in the cellar. After a coffee and a delicious piece of appelpie, I went to the entrance and was welcomed by a very nice and attentive hostess who also made time for a little chat. For me little things like that can make or brake a visit, she made it. Like a lot of places they focus on the kids. But the adults are not forgotten either. If open, don't forget to go outdoors to the battlements. It offers some great views. Also, there is a room with a suit of armor that you are allowed to put on. If you , understandably, don't, at least pick up a piece or two to feel how unbelievably heavy it is! Fun fact, just before the war, de Nachtwacht was stored in the Great Hall. Well worth the visit in my opinion. I would suggest combining a visit with for example the steam engine museum (check their website for steam days!) and/or war museum Medemblik to make a full day of it.
avatarNancy Sompie4 months agoVery nice castle. You will get a device in English if you can't speak Dutch so you can understand every spot you in.
avatarIwan van Hagen4 months agoVery nice castle. We great explanations of life in the Middle Ages. Not super touristic and great with kids: everything can be touched except weapons.
