Description
Stöng Viking-era Longhouse is a reconstructed Viking farm from the 10th-11th century, buried by the eruption of the Hekla volcano in 1104. An authentic reconstruction made of peat, stone, and wood allows you to experience the atmosphere of the saga era.
A central hearth, sleeping benches, weaving workshops, and medieval costumes to try on make history come alive. The original ruins discovered in 1939 show the foundations of a 17-meter house belonging to a wealthy chieftain, and a newly discovered second house from 2023 reveals a larger settlement than previously thought.
