Description
The Bamberg Diocesan Museum is a treasure trove of historical and cultural artifacts focusing on the ecclesiastical history of Bamberg.
The museum is famous for its international collection of medieval textiles, including the Imperial Star Cloak, given to Emperor Henry II. A wealth of liturgical objects can be admired here, such as a 12th-century Easter candlestick, a portable altar, chalices and crucifixes.
A unique part of the exhibition are fragments of the Veit Stoß altarpiece, Gothic-era statues and Baroque ostensories. The museum is housed in a chapter house built by Balthasar Neumann in 1731-33, further emphasizing its historical significance.
