Description
St. Suitbertus is a unique basilica in Düsseldorf, combining Romanesque and Gothic styles. Built between 1050 and 1237, it hides a real treasure - a gold reliquary from the 12th/thirteenth century containing the remains of St. Suitbertus, an Anglo-Saxon missionary.
It is one of the most important examples of medieval goldsmithing in the Rhine-Meuse region. The church is also famous for its choral and organ concerts, which attract lovers of sacred music.
When visiting the Kaiserswerth district, combine a visit to the basilica with the nearby ruins of the Imperial Palace built by Frederick I Barbarossa.
