Old Friday Mosque Minaret (Since 1675)

Old Friday Mosque Minaret (Since 1675) is a unique example of coral architecture in the Maldives. Built without mortar from coral blocks, this historic minaret is part of the oldest structure in Malé, the Hukuru Miskiy Mosque, dating back to 1658.

Unique features include dry masonry techniques, a 17th-century cemetery with distinctive tombstones (rounded for women, pointed for men), and UNESCO recognition for 'creative excellence' in maritime architecture. Decorations include elaborate carvings, Koranic inscriptions, and lacquer calligraphy.
