Ljubljansko barje

Ljubljansko barje is a vast national park in Slovenia that is a fascinating mosaic of wetlands, bogs and watercourses. This unique ecosystem is home to more than 250 species of birds and rich flora, including wild orchids.

The area is famous for the remains of prehistoric palafit settlements dating back more than 6,000 years, listed by UNESCO. Here you can admire the oldest wooden wheel in the world, kept in the Ljubljana City Museum.
