Description
Rochester Castle is one of the most magnificent Norman fortresses in England. Dating back to 1087, this impressive structure rises 113 feet and offers a fascinating journey back in time.
The castle survived an epic siege by King John in 1215, who used the fat of 40 pigs to set fire to an underpass under the tower, causing the southern corner to collapse. Nevertheless, the defenders persevered, surrendering only from starvation.
Today, you can admire the majestic architecture, climb three floors and imagine the lives of medieval lords in their private chambers.
