Description
Heidenloch is a mysterious cave on Heiligenberg Hill in Heidelberg, known as the 'Pagan Hole'. This 55-meter-deep, 3-4-meter-diameter cavity is shrouded in numerous legends and theories about its origin and purpose.
During the excavations, medieval objects from nearby monasteries - metal vessels, keys, horseshoes and knives - were discovered. The bottom of the shaft is lined with bricks, which adds even more mystery to the site.
This is an ideal place for history and nature lovers. The surrounding hiking trails offer breathtaking views of the Neckar River and Heidelberg Castle.
