Description
Braies Lake is a true jewel of the Dolomites, located at 1,500 meters above sea level in the heart of the Fanes-Senes-Braies Natural Park.
It is famous for its amazing turquoise-green water, which owes its color to the reflection of the surrounding mountains and underground springs. According to local legend, the lake was created when wild people opened underground springs to protect their gold from shepherds.
In summer, visitors can rent a boat and enjoy the panorama from the water or walk the 3.6-kilometer trail around the lake. In winter, the area turns into a paradise for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. It is also the starting point of the famous Alta Via No. 1 trail.
