Description

The Roman Theater in Voltera is one of the largest theaters from the Roman Empire, with a capacity of about 3,500 spectators. Built at the end of the 1st century BC by the Caecina family, it impresses with its two-tone structure of limestone seats and dark lava corridors.

The theater has preserved the original staircase, a semicircular orchestra covered with marble and part of a two-story colonnade. It also had a velarium, a special fabric that provided shade for the audience during performances.

It is part of a larger archaeological area that also includes the Etruscan Acropolis of Piano di Castello. The site is a fascinating journey back in time to ancient Rome.
