Description
Havana Castle Of The Royal Force is the oldest stone fort in the Americas, built in the 16th century to defend against pirate attacks.
Today it houses the Museum of Fortifications, showcasing maritime history from pre-Columbian times to the present. Here you can admire a model of the Santisima Trinidad, the largest ship of the 18th century, maritime artifacts and colonial silver and gold.
Atop the fort is the oldest bronze statue in Cuba - La Giraldilla, a symbol of the city commemorating Isabel de Bobadilla, Havana's only female governor.
