Parque Metropolitano La Sabana

Parque Metropolitano La Sabana is the green lung of San José - a sprawling urban park covering 72 hectares.

This lively place offers an artificial lake, sports fields for basketball, baseball, volleyball and soccer, as well as athletic tracks and a swimming pool.

The park boasts a rich history dating back to the 18th century, when Father Manuel Antonio Chapuí y Torres donated the area for recreational purposes. It is interesting to note that until 1958, Costa Rica's first international airport was located here.

Art lovers will appreciate the Museum of Costa Rican Art located in the former airport building.
