Description
The Church of Santa Maria del Mar in Barcelona is a gem of Catalan Gothic, built between 1329 and 1383. Its austere, majestic exterior conceals a spacious interior with remarkable harmony and unity of style.
Destroyed during the Spanish Civil War in 1936, today it impresses with its ascetic beauty. A preserved medieval stained-glass flame-style rosette adds a mystical touch to the interior.
It is the place of inspiration for the novel 'The Cathedral of Barcelona' by Ildefonso Falcones, allowing one to feel the spirit of Catalonia's medieval sea power.
