Description
Bosco Sacro is a fascinating sculpture park also known as Sacro Bosco di Bomarzo or Parco dei Mostri. This remarkable area is filled with massive Mannerist sculptures carved in local peperino stone, depicting ogres, monsters, beasts and mythological creatures.
The park was created in the 16th century for Duke Vicino Orsini and is full of symbolism drawn from myths, Dante's Divine Comedy and other literary works. Among the most interesting elements are colossal wrestlers, a dragon, an elephant, nymphs and Greek and Roman gods.
It is an ideal place for art, history and nature lovers, offering scenic hiking trails with breathtaking views.
