Description

Grotta del Cavallo is a fascinating limestone cave of great archaeological significance, located in the Apulia region of southern Italy.

This unique site contains rich stratigraphic layers reaching 7 meters deep, documenting the transition between the Middle and Upper Paleolithic.

The cave became famous for the discovery of molar teeth belonging to early representatives of Homo sapiens, dated to 45-43,000 years ago, making it one of the oldest traces of anatomically modern humans in Europe.

The site is crucial to understanding Uluzzian culture and the debate about interactions between Neanderthals and modern humans.
