Saracen Tower

Saracen Tower is a fascinating historical monument on the Amalfi Coast, part of an ancient defense system. Despite its name, the tower was not built by the Saracens, but originated as part of the fortifications that protected residents from pirate attacks.

The originally cylindrical structure evolved over time into a square form with thicker walls, and some towers were even equipped with cannons. They were used to warn the population of impending danger by means of fire or smoke signals.
