Description
The Sant'Elmo Castle is an imposing fortress with a unique hexagonal shape, towering over Naples. Built in the 16th century according to a design by Pedro Luis Escriva, it is a masterpiece of defensive architecture with double ticks and numerous gun emplacements in the bastions.
The castle's terrace offers a breathtaking view of the city, the sea and Vesuvius.
Today it's a fascinating museum and cultural center, where you can enjoy art exhibitions and learn about the turbulent history of the building, which witnessed the Neapolitan Revolution of 1799 and served as a prison for figures such as Tommaso Campanella.
