Description
The Necropolis of Pantalica is a unique UNESCO-listed archaeological site located in a picturesque gorge in Sicily. The site impresses with some 5,000 tombs carved into the limestone rocks, dating from the 13th to 17th centuries BC.
It's a fascinating combination of history and nature - while exploring the necropolis you can admire not only ancient burial sites, but also lush vegetation, wildlife and crystal clear streams.
Worth seeing is the mysterious Anaktoron ('Prince's Palace'), a megalithic structure on top of the hill whose origin is still debated by archaeologists.
