Description
Torre Uluzzo is a fascinating historical monument located near the Porto Selvaggio Park in Nardò. This partially dilapidated but recently restored tower rises 32 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking views of the coast.
Built in 1568 to a design by Royal Engineer Giovanni Tommaso Scala, the tower has a rich history dating back to the 16th century. Its name is derived from the dialectical word 'uluzzu', meaning the goldenrod plant.
The surrounding area is famous for its prehistoric archaeological sites, including 'La Grotta del Cavallo', where an Upper Paleolithic culture known as 'Uluuzziana' was discovered.
