Description
Ercolani Cellars - 'Underground City' and Museum is a fascinating place that combines history, architecture and wine culture. The cellars, dating back to the 15th century, form a vast network of underground tunnels and secret passages with Gothic vaults and arched entrances.
Three small museums feature exhibits related to the history of winemaking, as well as an Etruscan tomb and a medieval torture chamber.
The place is famous for its production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, and during the tour you can taste local specialties - pecorino cheese, salami and truffles, perfectly matched with the wines produced here.
