Description
The Basilica of Ostrzyhom is the largest temple in Hungary, impressive for its monumental size and rich history. This classicist building with a dome rising 71.5 meters high offers breathtaking views of the Danube River and Slovakia.
Inside hides a true treasure - the Bakócz Chapel, the most valuable Renaissance work in Hungary, which was dismantled into some 1,600 pieces in 1823 and moved to the basilica.
The cathedral treasury displays valuable liturgical objects, including the 15th-century gold 'Calvary of Matthias' cross and the Suki chalice used by Pope John Paul II during his 1991 visit.
