Aquaduct Veluwemeer

Aquaduct Veluwemeer is an unusual engineering structure in the Netherlands that allows boats to pass over a road. This 25-meter-long aqueduct is 3 meters deep, allowing small vessels to pass freely while cars pass underneath through a tunnel.

This unique combination of road and waterway is a fascinating example of Dutch engineering thought. Walking along the pedestrian paths on either side of the aqueduct, one can enjoy the unusual sight of boats sailing over the street.

The aqueduct, opened in 2002, was built with 22,000 cubic meters of concrete and steel sheet piling to support the weight of the water and prevent leaks.
