Description
The Barranco del Cabrito Natural Monument is a unique natural attraction on the island of La Gomera. This picturesque 11.64-square-kilometer area impresses with its steep slopes and flat-bottomed gullies carved into the basalt bedrock by millions of years of erosion.
The site is famous for its rare endemic flora, including cardonales (Euphorbia canariensis) and tabaibas (Euphorbia berthelotii). As you hike the Cumbres de La Gomera trail, you can admire spectacular volcanic formations such as the roque de Sombrero and roque de Magro.
Historical significance is added by abandoned agricultural areas with distinctive stone walls that were once used to grow wheat and barley.
