Description
The Wallace Tower is an impressive historical monument in the heart of Ayr. This 113-foot-tall neo-Gothic tower was built in 1832 on the site of an earlier 17th-century structure known as the Auld Tower.
The tower is adorned with a statue of William Wallace, a Scottish national hero chosen by the people of Ayr. According to local legend, Wallace was said to have held 500 English soldiers here before setting fire to a barn.
This fascinating combination of architecture and history is a symbol of Scottish heritage and national pride.
