Description

The Merry Maidens Stone Circle is one of the best preserved prehistoric stone circles in Cornwall. This almost perfectly circular array of 19 granite megaliths dates from the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age (3500-4500 years ago).

Each stone is about 1.2 meters high, and the tallest ones are located in the southwestern part of the circle. The site is shrouded in a fascinating legend - according to the legend, 19 girls were turned into stones for dancing on Sunday, and the two bagpipers accompanying them to the dance met the same fate.

There are other historical attractions nearby, including the Tregiffian burial chamber and the ancient village of Carn Euny.
