avatarAmy H.a week agoVery interesting historic sight. There were many original pieces to look at and activities to do. The tour was well organized and things were all on time. You can spend as much time as you want there too. We did the first floor and grounds tour and that was plenty. There are many informational signs to describe all the sights and history you are taking in. Tip: Take your own water bottle as they have filling stations.
avatarMadhusudhan Sankarana month agoOne of my favorite places to visit around Charlottesville. This was a plantation belonging to Thomas Jefferson with a lot of history. There's a tour of the house itself which requires the purchase of a timed ticket. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and kind enough to answer any questions that we had when moving through the house/ grounds. Once the house tour ends, one can join other free tours nearby like the Vegetable Garden tour or the Slavery at Monticello tour. Both were great; the latter was a lot more heavy than I expected it to be, so if you're light-hearted, I'd skip that one. Thomas Jeffersons' grave is also present at the property. It's a quick stroll from the house. There's a shuttle that takes folks from the visitor center to the actual house (if you have a corresponding ticket to visit the house/ grounds). It was a god-send considering how hot the day ended up being. There's a cafe present to purchase food items. They have decent food options but a bit overpriced (which is expected). Overall, this place is a must visit. It's a place steeped in American history that you should visit if you're an aficionado.
avatarChris2 months agoMonticello was a wonderful gem of a place. The tour guides were awesome and everything was timed perfectly from the interior tour to the garden tour. You can explore the grounds, hike, or you can take the shuttle. You'll find Jefferson's grave and all sorts of historical documents and some of Jefferson's belongings. You can explore the cellars, go to the museum, or go to the gift shop which has a nice ornament we got. When the weather is decent, this is a must-stop.
