Description
Calanais Standing Stones is a fascinating Neolithic monument dating back to around 2900 BC, older than the main Stonehenge circle.
This magical arrangement of stones forms a cross with a central monolith 4.8 meters high surrounded by 13 stones. The site served as an astronomical observatory, accurately marking the lunar cycle every 18.6 years.
The stones are set on an exposed ridge, visible from land and sea. They are part of a larger ritual landscape with numerous other stone circles in the area, reflecting an advanced society with a deep understanding of astronomy and ritual practices.
