Description
The Old Town Hall in Bamberg is one of the city's most iconic landmarks. Built on an artificial island in the Regnitz River, it was constructed after the bishop denied the residents land for construction.
This 15th century Gothic building, rebuilt in Baroque and Rococo styles in the 18th century, impresses with its beautiful frescoes by Johann Anwander. Particularly captivating is an illusionistic detail - a cherub's leg that seems to protrude from the wall.
Inside is the Ludwig Collection, one of the largest private collections of porcelain in Europe, and the Rococo Room of Bamberg councilors.
