Description
Real Castillo de Santa Catalina is a fascinating 17th century fortress located in Santa Cruz de La Palma in the Canary Islands.
This unique fortress, built between 1685 and 1692, is the only surviving Habsburg-era fortification in the Canary Islands. Visitors can admire the square layout with triangular bastions, a wide embankment and a moat.
Inside, exhibits await, showcasing the castle's history, armory, gunpowder store, dungeons and spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean. In 1951 the site was declared a Historic Monument.
