Description
Portal de las Monjas is a fascinating medieval gate dating back to the 13th century, part of the defensive walls of picturesque Mirambel.
It is distinguished by its cylindrical tower and unique architecture combining military and civilian elements. The upper part of the gate is decorated with three levels of closed galleries with distinctive openwork grilles (celosías) made of plaster and clay.
Below the galleries is an open chapel dedicated to Santo Tomás. It is an excellent example of the cultural heritage of the Maestrazgo region that will delight lovers of history and architecture.
