Description
Monument to the French Illyrian Province is a unique historical monument commemorating Napoleon's Illyrian Provinces. It is located on the French Revolution Square in the heart of Ljubljana.
Carved from stone from the island of Hvar, the monument depicts a girl's head symbolizing Illyria and a portrait of Napoleon. At the top is an interpretation of the Slovenian coat of arms with the motif of a ship and three suns.
Erected in 1929 to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the Illyrian Provinces, it is a testament to the French influence on Slovenian culture, language and national identity.
