Description
The Alexandrowka Russian Colony is a unique corner of Potsdam, built between 1826 and 1827 by King Friedrich Wilhelm III as a tribute to Tsar Alexander I.
Although the buildings give the impression of being wooden, they are actually made of Prussian brick with wooden decorative elements. The colony is shaped like a hippodrome with alleys arranged in a St. Andrew's cross.
The Alexandrovka museum features six rooms decorated in Biedermeier style, showcasing the life of Russian immigrants from the 19th century. Lenné gardens with more than 500 varieties of fruit trees complete this unique UNESCO-listed site.
