Description
The Zollverein mine and coke plant industrial complex is a unique UNESCO-listed site that combines industrial history with modern culture.
Founded in 1847, it was one of the most productive mines in Germany, reaching a production of one million tons of coal as early as 1890.
Today it is a vibrant cultural center with museums, art galleries and recreational spaces. The distinctive hoisting tower of Shaft 12, designed in the New Republic style, is an architectural masterpiece and a symbol of the Ruhr region.
You can discover the Ruhr Museum, the Red Dot Design Museum and enjoy the numerous walking trails in the park surrounding the complex.
