Description
Heimburg in Niederheimbach is a fascinating historical monument built between 1294 and 1305 by the Archbishop of Mainz, Gerhard II von Eppstein.
The castle is characterized by a semicircular plan and a massive curtain wall facing the Rhine, positioned between two circular towers. The southern tower has been extended to form a tall tower.
Although the castle is privately owned and not open to the public, its majestic silhouette is an important part of the cultural landscape of the Rhine Valley. The best photos of the castle can be taken during a cruise on the Rhine.
