Burg Lichtenberg

Burg Lichtenberg is one of the oldest castles of the Staufer family in Germany, dating back to 1197.

The monument impresses with a late Romanesque chapel from the 13th century decorated with paintings from the 14th century and a Gothic entrance gate. It was restored after a fire in 1799 and now houses a museum, restaurant and youth hostel.

It's worth climbing the defense tower for a spectacular view of the surrounding countryside, including Remigiusberg Monastery and the ruins of Michelsburg Castle. The grounds host cultural events, including the Musikantenland music festival.
