World War I Memorial

The World War I Memorial is an impressive historical monument that pays tribute to the 4.7 million Americans who served in World War I, including 116,516 fallen soldiers.

The centerpiece of the memorial is the 'Soldier's Journey' sculpture, which, over the course of 58 feet of wall, depicts the experience of an American soldier from the time he leaves his family to the time he returns home.

The monument also includes a Fountain of Peace with an excerpt from a poem by Archibald MacLeish, as well as numerous quotes and references to the war campaigns. It is a place of reflection and reverie that combines history with an artistic expression of the memory of heroes.
