Description
Steintorturm is an impressive Gothic tower dating back to 1380, and is one of four surviving medieval city gates in Brandenburg an der Havel.
This 30-meter-high structure with walls more than 3 meters thick hides a fascinating history - in the Middle Ages it was used as a prison. You can still see the inscriptions left by Peter Wannemacher, who was imprisoned here in 1622 for his part in the rebellion.
Today, the tower houses a museum dedicated to the history of navigation on the Havel River. The top offers a picturesque panorama of the city that will delight any lover of architecture and history.
