Description
The Roman Brauneberg / Mosel wine press is one of the best preserved monuments to winemaking from the time of the Roman Empire north of the Alps.
This impressive 44 by 20 meter structure allowed processing huge quantities of grapes - about 60,000 liters of pulp were transformed into 30-40,000 liters of wine per year. Up to 130 people worked on it!
Standing at this ancient press, one can imagine the winemaking process of centuries ago - from kneading grapes with feet to squeezing the juice using a special basket and a beam with a heavy stone as a load.
