Description
The Granitz Hunting Castle is an architectural gem located on the island of Rügen, built between 1837 and 1846 in the style of Northern Italian Renaissance castles.
Its 38-meter-high central tower, designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, offers breathtaking views of the entire island. Climbing the 154 iron stairs is quite a challenge, but the reward is worth the effort!
The castle hides an impressive collection of hunting trophies and 19th century furniture. It was a popular vacation spot for European aristocracy, including Otto von Bismarck. The surrounding Granitz forest, which is part of a biosphere reserve, adds to the place's unique charm.
