Am Paradeplatz

Am Paradeplatz is a historic square in the old city of Heidelberg that hides a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. Originally known as Universitätsplatz, it was the site of an Augustinian monastery mentioned as early as 1279.

The square is surrounded by the impressive buildings of the Old University (1712-1735) and the New University (1930s). A distinctive feature is the Lion Fountain, symbolizing the heraldic animal of the Electoral Palatinate.

This place bustles with cultural events, including Heidelberg Literature Day and Christmas markets. You'll also find plaques commemorating the Heidelberg Disputation and the 1933 book burning.
