Description

Hameau du Saut is a fascinating historical monument in Tignes that hides a remarkable story. This former Alpine village was submerged during the construction of the Tignes Dam between 1941 and 1952, creating the artificial lake Lac du Chevril.

Every 10 years, during maintenance work, the lake is drained, revealing the remains of the original village - a rare opportunity to see this piece of history. A symbol of the memory of the sunken Tignes is the sculpture 'La Dame du Lac' and a replica of the Saint Jacques de Tarentaise church, containing original furnishings.

This site combines dramatic history with the beauty of the Alpine landscape.
